Arnhemland didgeridoo CD
Aboriginal Field RecordingssArnhem Land Popular Classics
Excellent 1961 field recordings of traditional Aboriginal singing, clapsticks and didgeridoo. A perfect CD to experience the sound of tribal music from the heart of the outback country where the didgeridoo is still used in ceremony. You will hear Australian Aboriginal elders from the Beswick Government Settlement in the Northern Territory and surrounds. A booklet that comes with the CD describes the story of the songs and includes a map of Arnhem Land pinpointing where the recordings were made. Digitally mastered for maximum sound quality. Highly recommended.

Milkay MununggurrsHard Tongue (instructional)
The Yolngu (indigenous people of Northeast Arnhem Land, Australia) call the didgeridoo "yidaki". Their ngänarr-däl, or "hard tongue", style has been called the hardest didge playing to learn. On this CD, ceremonial player Milkay Mununggurr distills yidaki playing to the basics. Spoken and written instructions accompany the exercises, along with professional illustrations showing tongue position and movement for each rhythm. The rhythms are recorded at various speeds, with both the sound of the yidaki and the breathing audible. If you play didgeridoo and have struggled to learn the Yolngu yidaki playing style, this is the primer you need. Play along!
