"Yeti Did It Again"

Performance Quality Drop-Octave Didgeridoo

Crafted by Will Thoren

Just when you thought it was safe to say, "Yup, I play a didgeridoo", someone like Will comes along to see how low you can go! Uh, low as in drone, that is. Very low... unfathomable even. So this is a "Yeti" didge made from a storm felled willow tree with a natural mouthpiece. It plays a normal drone in F#/G, but you can drop a whole octave below that to low F#/G on it! Watch the video below for a demo of this dynamic multi-drone didgeridoo being played.

This didge is customized for a new technique that Will, the Yeti himself, developed to play multiple drone notes. The basic technique involves dropping the fundamental drone or pitch of a didge an exact octave below what it normally is, whilst keeping the didgeridoo normal sized rather than 8 to 12 feet long. The concave mouthpiece conforms to your face for a perfect fit, and is slightly larger than most didge players are accustomed too, enabling better lip movement and control for advanced styles.

What a ruggedly handsome didgeridoo this is, not to mention eco-friendly (being recycled from a storm felled tree). The bell or distal end is
very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of
tone. Solid, gorgeous
finish. Double resin coated inside
and out for enhanced sound quality,
luster and durability. Features a smooth and comfortable mouthpiece that's been sanitized
with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). This
didgeridoo is
waterproof, unaffected by hot or cold
weather conditions, and very easy
to care for, no worries. |
Soundwise: Performance quality sound. Will says, "This didgeridoo is a true rocket, or space shuttle, built to take you to new realms of playing. Designed for the drop octave technique, it plays the lower drone with a powerful punch. An excellent didgeridoo to learn the drop octave on. A super tight bore with solid backpressure that opens up the space for fast and powerful rhythmic playing. The mouthpiece is a very comfortable concave shape that offers a solid seal, suited for the drop octave technique which is best played from the front of the mouth ( for more information on this see front vs. side on www.wetdidgeridoo.com. Beyond its didgeridoo capabilities, if you ever had to fight a bear, you would want to have this didge as a club.
The most prevalent extra drone note is a drop octave of the first trumpet. This means that if the drone is E and the first trumpet is C, you can play a drone note in the key of C that sits in between the normal E and the drop octave E. As lip control is developed it is possible to play a whole range of notes that sit in between the drone and the drop octave, but the playability of these notes depends on the instrument and the skill of the player. Typically the lower the normal drone of the didgeridoo, the easier it is to sit on these extra “multi” drones, but the harder it is to reach the real drop octave. So if a didgeridoo is labeled multi drone, look at the pitch of the first trumpet to see which extra drone note will be the easiest to play in between the drone and the drop octave. The expanded range of Multiple Drone didgeridoos opens up new worlds of possibility for contemporary playing." Truly a fine, beautifully crafted instrument, and definitely one of a kind. 100%
