Concert Quality Yidaki from Australia
|
|
Burrngupurrngu Wunungmurra

The red dot on the map of Australia at left shows you where this yidaki comes from. Burrngupurrngu
(Dhalwangu aboriginal) is one of the foremost yidaki
makers and a senior lawman for
the Dhalwangu clan. Whilst
busy with ceremonial responsibilities
for months at a time, Burrngupurrngu
demands of himself a consistent
standard. He's well respected
amongst Yolngu communities for
his knowledge of yidaki making
and playing. Even as a young
man he was sought after to play
in ceremony. The
artwork represents
a Dhalwangu clan
design featuring a turtle icon that is very significant
to his tribe, and the execution
of the fine crosshatch lines
is remarkable. Only artists of high degree are allowed to paint these sacred diamond-shaped designs. This is an "old
school" instrument in excellent
condition, much more collectable
than your average didgeridoo,
and we honor that by using the
proper Yolngu word for didgeridoo,
"yidaki", here. Painted with natural ochres (earth pigments). The bell or distal end is
very clear and open which increases volume, harmonics, and clarity of
tone. Features a perfect natural mouthpiece that's been sanitized
with Didgeri-Clean (tea tree and lavender oil). Most definitely one of my favorite players from these new arrivals. |

Soundwise: Concert quality sound. This exceptional instrument recently arrived from Australia and has just been placed on the website. This is one of the top 5 instruments currently on offer. Incredible ease of rhythmic
control and manipulation. Pitched
in D# with smoldering, serpentine
dronewaves, Space Invader bleeps, and thumping bass.
This gorgeous yidaki is quite LOUD and POWERFUL! Vocal response is excellent in the
mid to upper frequencies giving
your animal sounds and distortion
effects very good articulation with warm notes.
The bore is tapered but a bit larger and less conical than most yidaki, so it offers a bigger vocal range and more bass. Excellent sensitivity to both
tongued and diaphragmatic rhythms.
Three easy horn tones, one warm
and two bright against the drone.
Perfect backpressure for its size
and pitch makes the circular
breathing technique easeful.

This collectable yidaki will be an outstanding addition to even the most robust didgeridoo
quiver (or to get one started)!
And besides the sound, the artwork features sacred designs that only a handful of Yolngu artists are allowed to create. We suspect that it's not gonna last
long around here to be sure. Please
